The Best way to travel around DC at night is by cab or car because most clubs close at 2am during the week (Sun-Thurs), and metro closes by 11pm. On the weekends (Fri-Sat) the best way to travel is by cab as most clubs close at 3am and metro will be closed by 1am. If traveling by car, make sure you have a designated driver. DC Police Do NOT Play!
02
If you're taking metro for the day arrive at least 1/2 hr before closing time (especially if you have to transfer) because trains could take up to 20min and you could miss the last one.
03
When paying for metro, it is smart to get either a 1 or 7 day pass. Metro can cost up to $6 one way depending on where you travel to/from so if you plan to be.out on metro all day and night, this is your best option. During rush hour though 5-9:30am & 3-7pm it may be more. Still the best idea when you combine Museums, Dinner, AND Dancing! https://www.wmata.com/ for more information & Schedules.
04
If you are driving in DC, note that until 10pm every day (except Sunday which is free thank God) you will have to pay to park on the street. Especially downtown. So if you plan to drive, be sure to bring a lots of change as meters do not take bills. Only some accept credit cards. Or you may use the Park Mobile App.
05
Parking is difficult in D.C. (especially in the evenings and weekends). There are however many garages you may park in for a fee. Be aware of closing time as not all garages are 24 hours.
06
There are also many speed traps and checkpoints in D.C. so be very careful. You are only allowed 10 miles over the speed limit before getting pulled over and ticketed. 20 miles over is cause for an arrest or a hefty ticket as a wreck-less driver.
DC Law prohibits cell phone use while driving so if you are lost, or need to talk to someone, pull over or they may ticket you!
07
If you're planning to be in D.C. only for a few days, and want to get as much out of it as possible, Club and bar hopping is a good idea! Especially in the areas of Adams Morgan, Georgetown, Ust, Kst (downtown) and Dupont Circle. These areas have multiple clubs within a block of each other so you can visit a couple in one night!
08
If you're going to a nightclub, and traveling in groups of 4 or more, it is a good idea to get a table. These venues are usually packed and have limited seating. So most clubs offer free tables with a min Purchase (usually around $300-$500). If you have enough people you can split it!
09
If you know of a particular club you'd like to go to that has a guestlist, get on it early! Some gueslist stop accepting names at 3pm the day of & you don't want to be SOL...
10
Be sure to get to clubs with guest lists at least 1/2 hour earlier. Since its free, there might be a line. Especially at popular venues.
11
For those of you who are not concerned about getting in free, the best time for you to get to the club is around midnight. This is when most people show up.
12
Try to take the least amount of belongings with you. Some places dont offer coat check and you don't want to be stuck holding a suitcase all night!
13
DC is technically by law a "No Smoking In Establishments" City. All establishments (except for Cigar Bars and hookah bars, or venues with designated Smoking Areas) will not allow smoking. And keep in mind some dance clubs don't allow ins and outs, which means you won't be able to step outside for a smoke. So if you can, its best to leave your cigarettes in the car!
14
Keep in mind that if you're planning to go out with any children under 17, Washington, Dc has curfew laws that don't allow any persons under age 17 to hang out (anywhere) after 11 weekdays, and 12am weekdends within the District of Columbia without a guardian so try to keep an eye on them! For exceptions to this rule....CLICK HERE

When dining be sure to ask if the tip is included in your bill. Most restaurants do not add gratuity and most workers are paid a bare minimum wage so please tip 15-20% according to the service you received. The bartenders will thank you!
